Our Origin
How a search for gentler skin care became a small range of handcrafted formulas, made in Florida.
Hosanna Skin Care started with a common problem: dry, sensitive skin. Plenty of products on the shelf promised relief and did not deliver it, often leaning on the very ingredients causing the irritation in the first place. The search for something better ended in a kitchen in Florida, making our own.
Why we started
We wanted something that would soothe and protect rather than mask. That meant learning what each ingredient actually does, and it took considerably longer than expected — most of what we learned was that what you leave out matters as much as what you put in.
The formulas that came out of it worked well enough that keeping them to ourselves stopped making sense. Hosanna is for anyone moving away from long ingredient lists they cannot read, toward something gentler and made deliberately.
Where the collection begins
Today the range begins with five natural deodorants. We started here because you apply deodorant every day, often to skin that has just been shaved. A pleasant scent cannot disguise a formula that does not work. It either agrees with your body or it does not.
They are built on a cocoa butter and coconut oil base, entirely free of aluminum and baking soda. In place of baking soda we use magnesium hydroxide, which works on the same principle — making the skin surface less hospitable to odor-causing bacteria — but raises the pH gradually rather than in a spike. That is why people who react to baking soda often tolerate it.
Our promise of transparency
- Honest vocabulary. We avoid words like clean, because the term has no agreed meaning and is chosen precisely for that. We do not claim to be chemical-free, because everything is a chemical, water included. And we do not call our formulas plant-based, because they contain beeswax.
- Clear ingredients. We publish the complete list and explain what each part is doing — including the parts that are there for comfort rather than performance, and where the evidence behind one is early rather than strong.
- Realistic expectations. We do not promise a result, because how a product performs varies with the person using it. We will tell you when we think one of ours is not right for you.
That is a smaller claim than most of this category makes. It is one we can actually keep.
Cruelty free, but not vegan
We never test on animals, on any batch, in any market, and we require the same of our suppliers. Our formulas do contain beeswax, so they are not vegan — we would rather say that here than let you find it on the back of a label.
Our approach to packaging
The deodorants ship in an eco-friendly mineral tube designed to be refilled and reused rather than the molded plastic stick the industry defaults to, and the mailers are recycled and recyclable. Those are the two decisions we have actually made and can point to.
We do not claim to be carbon neutral. We have not measured our footprint end to end, and our orders travel with couriers whose emissions are not ours to account for. We would rather name the packaging decisions we have made than advertise an ambition we cannot measure.
Looking ahead
We are working on the skin and hair care that started all of this. It will be released when it is ready rather than to a calendar, so we are not going to announce a date we might miss or a category we have not finished. Every product will be held to the same rule: every line on the label can be explained.
Say less than you could prove, and prove everything you say.
Start with the formula
Every product page carries the complete ingredient list and explains what each part is doing. Read it before you decide — that is what it is there for.
